Helpful Tips

Your attitude is very important in learning how to dance! You may be thinking of taking lessons for yourself or for someone else. Whatever the reason, if you come in with a positive attitude, you will have a lot more fun during the process.

No technical knowledge of music is needed to become a good dancer. It is perfectly normal to have some difficulty distinguishing between different types of music and recognizing the beat at first. As your lessons progress, this will disappear.

On your first visit you will be introduced to three very important ingredients in learning how to dance. They are the footwork, the rhythm, and your lead or follow. All three are very easy. It just may take a moment to do all three at the same time. Always allow yourself a couple of lessons before getting the hang of it.

It is important initially to keep your lessons close together, at least once a week, if possible. This will make it easier to retain the brain memory and program your muscle memory for the correct feeling.
